ERCS Calls For Expanded Partnership

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) called up on both actual and potential partners to further improve their cooperative effort thereby help the Society render better humanitarian services for the most vulnerable in the country.
The call was made while ERCS celebrated the 150th anniversary of Red Cross Red Crescent day was celebrated with a dinner reception at Hilton Addis Ababa on May 8, 2013. While opening the dinner reception,guest of honor Dr. KeseteBirhan Admasu, FDRE Health Minister that, at the moment for ERCS, cooperation with domestic partners are treated as both ends and means, requiring continuous interaction. At the time of need, such as humanitarian emergencies, partnerships are not just jump started, but should also be part of the continuous relationship.
Dr. Kesetebirhan further noted that the Ethiopian government welcomes increased attention of international and domestic stakeholders for bigger humanitarian cooperation with ERCS and approves determined efforts of the Society to become self-reliant.
Ato Daniel Tegenu, President of ERCS, on his part stated that humanitarian bondage in the course of rescuing lives endangered by disasters needs to be interweaved and laid a profound partnership. Therefore it may yield results with ever stronger partnership among stakeholders.
ERCS is currently engaged in the implementation of a change program evolved out of the strategic aim of bringing about organizational change as part of its development strategy for 2011-2020. The overall objective of the change program is strengthening the capacity of the Society so as to enable it to effectively and efficiently deliver its mandates and execute priority humanitarian services and community based development activities.
Ato Daniel also indicated that participation of all stakeholders has a significant role towards the full realization of the change program.
Ministers, higher government officials, ambassadors and business community members, among others, attended the celebration.
