Teddy Afro Pays Visit To ERCS

Artist Tewodros kassahun (Teddy Afro), accompanied by Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) management, paid a visit to the National Society on May 29th 2013. Secretary General of the Society, W/ro Frehiwot Worku, explained the humanitarian services being rendered by and future plan of the National Society.
In this regard, the Society in line with the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement values and principles has a structural network expanded down to grass root kebele level throughout the country. In addition, the Society is basically independent and supported by members and volunteers in carrying out its duties, said the Secretary General.
Teddy raised a question about the objectives of the fund raising activity through SMS 8100 lottery and the Multi-purpose Building around Filwuha area. In response to the question, W/ro Frehiwot said that the income generated from the SMS lottery will support the construction of the Multi-purpose building. Rather than being always dependent on the support of foreign partners, the building and other domestic income sources may enable us to run at least micro and small scale humanitarian projects and to provide immediate disaster response by ourselves, she said.
Artist Teddy Afro on his part stated that, he is currently planning a musical concert in the upcoming September. We all have a stake in the humanitarian enterprise. After consulting with co-organizers about the issue, I will let you know the final decision we reached on supporting the Societys endeavor. I will also try to convince them, as much as I can, to accept the idea, Teddy pledged.
W/ro Frehiwot called upon artists such as Teddy Afro to exploit their potential in networking with influential people and mobilizing the public for such humanitarian endeavors. During the occasion, artist Teddy handed-over a key to the third automobile winner of SMS 8100 lottery.
