ERCS Board Members hold talk with their NLRC Counterparts By Tizazu Wodaje Members of the Governing Board of the Ethiopian Red Cross (ERCS) received and held talks with the delegation from the Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC) on November 17, 2014 at ERCS Board Room. The visiting delegation comprised of the President, Board Members and the Secretary General of the NLRC. President of ERCS, Dr. Ahmed Reja, in his welcoming remarks, described the NLRC as a time tested partner which is very close to the heart of ERCS. The humanitarian relationship between ERCS and NLRC dates back to 1935 when the later had donated ambulance and medical support for the former to provide humanitarian service during the Italia war of aggression, Dr. Ahmed noted. Dr. Ahemd commended the NLRCs decision to be a strategic partner of ERCS by shifting from emergence and relief to community resilience and sustainable development which helps the latter to bring about the desired change. He also explained to the visiting delegation about the change that the Society is engaged in and the commitment of the board and the management to realize the cause of the change to make sure that the Society is a modern, transparent, accountable and efficient humanitarian institution which can live up to the expectation of the community, government and other partners. Mrs. Inge Brakman, President of NLRC on her part, promised to continue and improve the relations that that ERCS and NLRC have had since 1935. W/ro Frehiwot Work, Secretary General of ERCS, briefed the visiting delegation about several issues among other include background of the society, services that it deliver, financial situations, change process that it is engaged in and achievements made so far, challenges faced and its future directions. Members of the delegation from the NLRC presented overview of the NLRC, its core business, its central objective for 2014-2016, its international and domestic activities. The delegation also visited the Filwuha Multi-Purpose Building Construction Site and facility of the Training Center at ERCS.
