ERCS, Partners Evaluate Food Security Program In Tigray

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) along with the Sweden Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) evaluated and discussed on the future design of food security program in Tigray on February 18 and 19, 2006.
Secretary General of ERCS, W/ro Firehiwot Worku, who attended the evaluation meeting in Mekele, a regional capital of Tigray region, applauded the program and the responsible team. According to W/ro Firehiwot the program is deemed successful owing to the keen participation and sense of ownership by the stakeholders.
The food security program has an overall objective of improving the food security situation of 2,259 household in three tabias of Enderta Woreda in Tigray Region.
The program eyes on improving the income and health status of the households through provision of crossbreed cows, cattle fattening, beehives and poultry as well as through disease prevention and control.
The program also has objectives of enhancing food security through protecting natural resources as well as producing fruits and vegetables.
Moreover, it is intended to improve the capacity of ERCS Tigray Branch Office to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate long-term food security programs.
