ERCS-SPRC Distributes Certified Seed To Beneficiaries

Ethiopian and Spanish Red Cross Societies through Watershed based Integrated Food Security Project distributed potato and barley seed to beneficiaries in Menzgera woreda on June, 2013. According to Ato Fitsum Tibebe, field coordinator of the project, 290 quintals of potato and 130 quintals of certified barley seed are distributed to beneficiaries. Besides to the distribution, awareness creation campaign on how to make use of the seed on ground with smaller demonstration spots is undertaken with the support of plant science experts of the area. Ato Kochew Tsegaw, one of the beneficiaries said that in 2012 the productivity of the potato had been reduced since he never used the necessary inputs with it. However, in this year, he planned to support it with the necessary fertilizers and other inputs as per the directions of plant science experts. In order to improve productivity, monitoring and follow-up works on the use of the seed is also planned. Monitoring and follow up on the beneficiaries performance would be done by kebele adminstartion and the plant science experts, Ato Fitsum stated.
