President Sahlework Zewdie’s stopover at the Ethiopian Red Cross Society;

The Charter of the ERCS stipulates that Head of State of Ethiopia is the patron of the Society.

Accordingly, President Sahlework Zewdie has become the Patron of the Society since her assumption of power in October last year.

The Patron, on 1st of August, 2019 has paid an official visit to the Society’s Headquarters where she has witnessed the multi-dimensional activities of the Society’s Emergency Operation Center, Essential Drug Program Warehouse and Training Center.

During the visit ERCS Secretary General Meshesha Shewarega (PhD) has briefed the Patron about the evolution of the Society, and its short and long-term aspirations.

He said the Society aspires to double the number of its members and volunteers which currently stand at 6 million and 46 thousand respectively by next year, in addition to other fundraising activities it has embarked upon.

President Sahlework on the occasion lauded the efforts ERCS is exerting with a special emphasis on its domestic resource mobilization initiatives towards self-reliance.

She said integrating efforts is pivotal for better results to be achieved.

The eventful day was also complimented by a tree planting regimen in the premises of the training center found around Saris area in Addis Ababa.

The visit was culminated by the Patron Sahlework Zewdie officially launching ERCS Volunteers Deployment to the Summer Voluntary Service Program. //
